What is the STAR method?

Quick answer

STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, Result. It's a structure for answering behavioural questions ('tell me about a time you…'): set the Situation, explain your Task, describe the Actions you took, and finish with a quantified Result. It keeps answers concrete and shows impact instead of vague generalities.

Spend most of your answer on Action and Result — that's where you show what you personally did and what it produced. Recruiters remember 'cut processing time 40%' far more than 'I'm a hard worker'.

Prepare 4–6 STAR stories covering leadership, conflict, failure, and a big win; most behavioural questions are variations you can map to one of them.
